Is this like a currency cheat sheet or conversion table?
Exactly — it’s the idea behind a printed travel currency cheat sheet, made live. Instead of typing into a calculator, you open Quick Currency to a table of round local amounts beside their home-currency value, scroll to the price you’re looking at, and you’re done. Unlike a paper table, the rates update every day and it works on your iPhone and Apple Watch.
How does Quick Currency choose my home and local currencies?
Your home currency comes from your device’s Region setting. Your local currency is inferred from your device’s time zone, which updates automatically when you travel. This all happens on your device — the app never asks for location permission. You can change either currency at any time by tapping it.
Where do the exchange rates come from, and how often do they update?
Rates are provided by Exchange Rate API and refresh once a day, covering around 160 currencies. The app shows when the rates were last updated.
What are the Realistic Rates and how are they calculated?
The daily (mid-market) rate is almost never what you actually get once card fees, cash exchange, or airport counters take their cut. Realistic Rates let you add a sensible markup — from a savvy 2% to an airport-and-exotic-currency 18% — so the figure is closer to what you'll really pay. The tiers come from a modelling exercise (135 modelled data points grouped by k-means, then rounded to friendly figures). There's a full, plain-English breakdown in What realistic exchange rate should I choose?
Does it work without an internet connection?
Yes. The most recent rates are cached on your device, so conversions keep working offline. When you’re offline the app shows the date of the rates it’s using.
What are the round numbers on the left?
They’re a table of natural, everyday amounts for the local currency — the kinds of prices you actually encounter — each shown beside its exact value in your home currency. On iPhone you can tap any row to reveal the amounts in between.
How do I use it on my Apple Watch?
Quick Currency runs on Apple Watch as well as iPhone. Install it from the Watch app on your iPhone, or it appears automatically when you install the iPhone app. The Watch shows the same conversions in a glanceable form.
Is my data collected or shared?
No. Quick Currency has no accounts, no tracking, and no ads, and it does not collect personal data. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Should I use it for exact financial transactions?
Quick Currency is a handy reference for everyday travel, not a substitute for your provider's rate. The daily rate shown is an indicative mid-market figure, and the optional Realistic Rates are planning estimates — the actual markup you pay varies by bank, card issuer, ATM, city, and date. For exact amounts, always check with your provider.
